Secure Delete Trash Mac App

I am not very IT minded and when I start up my mac book air I get a message stating that the start up disk is full and that I need to delete files. Other users have advised to empty the trash. Is this simply a matter of clicking on the trash can icon and then the 'empty' button, or are there other places that trash is stored that I might not be aware of. There did not appear to be much in the trash that I could see but after deleting the items I am still getting the message that the start up disk is full.

  1. Apple added this option in El Capitan after it ditched Secure Empty Trash; I documented it in late 2015. IDG Within the Trash folder, you can delete items without any further ado.
  2. If you want to set this option as default for you every time you delete your trash, you can in OSX by simply clicking on FINDER ›› PREFERENCES and clicking EMPTY TRASH SECURELY. Now every time you empty trash, it’ll literally empty trash for good. This is a great option for dealing with a lot of secure or sensitive documents you don’t.
